it only took about 2 years...I had lost my original start so i started over again.. using the same fabric. now i have to decide which block to do next. in the morning i will dig out the tote with the dj's in it and go from there. the block has not been trimmed as of yet...that will wait for .

Life is busy and often frustrating...but I am going to keep thinking progress! there is lots
to get done around here, and I will keep chipping away at it...I spent last year bogged down
worring about what needed done...self defeating. this year I have been focusing on what is getting
done! Even the baby steps add up suprisingly fast! I am always suprised when I look back to see how much is done or well on the road to being done as I keep up with the baby steps.

is that to be useful YOU NEED TWO! I am
pretty sure these are not going to match, I don't
think I have enough of the dusky pink to completly
finish the foot area. I thought I had plenty...Oh well, the foot area is covered by my shoes. No I cannot
buy more...the yarn was handspun from a blend of
woll silk and mohair years ago. It is a triple ply...and about a sport weight yarn. I prefer wool
yarns in my walking socks. Yes, year around.

MY quilting and sewing is bogged down, but not forgotten. Life here is good. have a great day

finely I am sewing again

...how ever in a very disjointed manner, and i have to take the top left block apart...I obviously got it
wrong . this is the 1st block in the civil war sampler
by barbara backman. I am finely working on my Ohio crossing quilt once again. Also decided to
work on the hearts and apron strings once again.
I am still missing the last rounds directions so,
I guess if they haven't surfaced by the time I get there I will design my own last round and end up having the quilt be my own adaption. But at least I am once again sewing.

hmmmmmmmmmmm...its about time to turn that around. sometimes my plans go haywire...that is my only excuse for the last couple of weeks. on Monday I made a few small goals, today is friday and thanks to a stomach bug I sure haven't met them. Most I haven't even started! I feel much better today, so I hope I
will get some motavation to get moving! Like right NOW! off to find the kitchen!

I sure am glad I don't have to finish this quilt with a deadline...also glad that i don't feel rushed or pressured. I am truely enjoying the process.

once the center medalion is done...the next blocks are smaller and should not take so much time. no promises tho. i will probably work on the tiny berries as i work on the smaller blocks.

I don't believe it! Where does the time go? I have efectively lost over
a year and a half since my Larry died. I have done some things...but, not all that I planned to do.
I hope my goals will be reached this year and that I don't spend so much time just stareing into space!
it's time to get some order in my life, in my home, my yard and garden have all been neglected...its been
much harder than I expected. 2011 is when my goal is to find me!

put it in a box and forgot it...it's time now to do something with it. I have changed how I am going to finish it. The pattern called for a very heavy border...beautiful border but too heavy for the center of this quilt...so I am making more blocks and will make a narrow border. I thin I need about
30 more blocks.
   I am still working on the garden of memories in the evening when i am not playing taxi etc. (life does get in the way sometimes.) I have also been quilting on auntie grace for a good friend...so slowly
things are coming together here.

The stems are all appliqued and the feathers are all basted and ready to go. I think I am really going to like this quilt. No telling how long this is going to take me...I figure the slowest step will be the 80
little berries that will go around the bottom stems!

Time to do the center medalion

I would have left this for last...but figure I would never make it! I started this this week...you see the first set of bias stems...the circle is the accual center of the block. at this point I have all 4 bias sections pinned on. the next step is to baste them down so they don't shift,then I can start appliqueing them down. (i also dont get stuck by about 100 pins as I do the hand work if I baste) It's a good thing that there is no deadline on this quilt...no pressure.
it will be quite a while before you will see it again... this first step has to be accurate or the whole quilt will be whopper jawed so I will be taking my time.
Thankyou to all of my friends that are encouraging
as I work on this. It is basically evening work as I watch T.V. or listen to a book on CD. If I bog down on the medalion I still have 11 of the 12" blocks to work on.
now to get started on my day.

its monday and I managed to reach 2 out of my 5 goals

from last week...and here it is, the Apple glory block from Robert Callaham's Album of Memories. This block is the first one of 12 that I have done...it's accually not the first one in the pattern.
I will be doing it next...The center medalion. Right
now I am laying out the first step of the applique...no telling when I will get it done!

Next weeks goals will be simple:

1. work on center medalion
2. work on grace frame quilting
3. sew about 15 min a day
4. Thank God for all my blessings

Sometimes I wonder why I make goals...so often I never get them started let alone done. On Mondays
I try to set about 5 simple goals for the week...then I really mess up, ie life gets in the way. this week has been no different...but instead of giving up and beating myself over the head with a fat quarter, I returned to
my list to work on my goals...they may not get done this week but, at some time they will get done...and I am making progress. nothing I can show, but progress!

well, I may not have done much but at least I have gotten this block well started...I only have about half the leaves to tack down. while doing this i have also

gotten the center background on this quilt ready to go. It's not a race and thats a good thing. I am so glad that I have had this quilt to work on as I delt with other issues. I am truely enjoying the process!

but, at least I got something done. I hope to get to the next step tonight. I have gotten all the background parts for the center medalion of this quilt ready to assemble and all the sashing done on the pick and choose quilt...I am working on piecing the HST for the borders. I am not going to get much more done this week...I am going to be gone for about 10 days starting next Tues. My push now is getting ready for the trip.

I am looking for some small hand work to take with me. I am not taking this quilt...I loose things too easily. Maybe I will take a vacation from quilting?

Once again a jumble....the missing left half of the wall holds the center of the Album of Memories that still needs more rail fences made so i can get it assembled. the half square triangle squares are part of the borders of the pick and choose quilt. I have many more to make and the outside sashing yet to put on. The upper right has the center square of the quilt in the picture to the left of it. the applique has been missing for 4 or 5 years.

I found it while sorting thru boxes, you know, the organization thing. I found the pattern insert, and the directions in another 2 boxes. I still have not found the directions to parts 4,5 and 6 of the hearts and apron strings quilt that is on the bottom left of this wall. I don't know if I will make any progress on any of these quilts this week, I am still canning.

my goals this week are simple:

1. Keep up with the canning

2. keep sorting and organizing the sewing room and stash area.

3. make 1 Crossing Ohio block

4. finish sashing the Pick and Choose quilt

5. thank God for all my blessings

not much of a start...but it's my beginning of the applique work for Robert Callaham's Album of Memories...its an act of faith...this will be a quilt! Accually, it will be the Apple Glory Block. I do have these 4 stems basted on...hopefully, I will have time to work on it this week. There is still a lot of canning to do and sometimes I am just too tired to sew at night. But this is a start!

I was bad since my last stash report...I bought two half yard cuts...one is a black that I am using in the center medalion in this quilt and the other a WOC for background piecing in this quilt so at least it wasn't buying for no reason so....... my stash report since my last one is:

I finely made my decison on how big and how to set my crossing Ohio quilt. It will be set with 1" sashings and with

corner stones to continue the crossing part. I finished cutting the red centers while Irene was here yesterday. There will be 42 blocks set 6x7...I aim for about one a week...but that doesn't always happen this week canning got in the way. I will be taking this off the wall this weekend now that I have the centers all cut. Yep, 42 different reds. I guess I am obsessive they are all numbered so I make the right number of blocks...I love those stickie things for that!

I probably won't get much quilting done this weekend...

still have tomatoes to can and grape jam to make. At least I know that I will be eating well this winter. I am going to try to get

the album of memories blocks all traced and the overlays made...or at least more of them ready. Still have backgrounds to make...lots of prep work on this quilt, but

This is where I am on Robert Callaham's Album of memories...not very far. It's an awsome quilt!

The center medallion block is 39x39". I still have a bunch of 3.5 rail blocks to make before i can assemble it. There are 9 appliqued blocks, these are worked on pieced neutrals. I do have one

overlay ready to go. This quilt is going to take me forever to make but, it's an awsome quilt, well worth the effort. Good thing quilting is not a race! The nine patch and snow ball are not part of this quilt...neither is the lastsashing strip on the left...it goes to my pick and choose quilt. Ah well, I only have 6 more pieced back grounds to get together after the center medallion...and 7 pieced blocks to make. Ann

accually its the 4th and I usually have decided what I am going to focus on for the month by now.. but I have been all un focused for quite a while so now I am going to lock in and get going once again.

The chaos in my sewing room and my stash is really getting to me, so this month I am going
to get enough order in these areas that I can stand to work both in the sewing room and the section of the garage that houses the stash...I am tired of heaps...both areas have major heaps...
the heaps in the sewing room keeps me from sewing and cutting efficiently...the heaps in the garage? I can't find anything! It gets worse as I try to find stuff. so... rather than have heaps of ironing...just hanging around all over the couch and in boxes every where I think i will try
rewetting a stack of fabric at a time and fold them NEATLY as they come out of the dryer, sort
as I do for color and or type. Iron as I have time or need the fabric...I haven't decided at this point whether I will put them in boxes and totes or on the shelves til ironed at this point but the heaps
are going to be under control. Surely I have time for a dryer load a day!

the sewing room? keep the cutting area clear...when cutting put material away as I use it, by project if I am not done...keep it all together! when working with scraps, if possible, work box to box or better yet cut scraps clear gone when possible. Put usable strips away in their proper drawers when thru with days cutting...same with squares and rectangles...the boxes are marked by size put them ( the squares and rectangles) away!

Straighten the yardage shelves...

OK, this is a start... hopefully I will see a big difference by the end of the month...

Well, once again the design wall is morphing...a slow but sure process. I am starting to make the

background for applique blocks...The largest one

is on point with 3 " rails surrounding. i am still cutting and sewing the rails...but , putting them on the wall as I go. the pick and choose is coming down as I sash it...2 rows to go. the hearts and apron strings? still not sure where I am going with it...

mean while I have tomatoes and beans to can... today. I think I will make salsa and can it. life is always busy this time of year!

I still have several more strips to sew for my sashing for the pick and choose quilt...and the border half square triangles are being cut for the final border...the end is just barely in sight.

the right side of the wall? steps one 2 and 3

of a serries quilt from QNM from several years
ago. I have lost all directions but 2 and 3...this will end up being my quilt ... I am not even sure how big the center medalian is supposed to be! I will trim the center to fit the on point 9 patches, the triangles with the heart,birds and flowers

will be trimmed to go around the outside of the

9 patches...the rest of the quilt I have absolutely have no idea if I will follow the picture I have

or will just do my own thing...step 3 is an odd size border of churn dashes...I have the cutting directions for them. Maybe the missing patterns will surface by then...if not It will be quite different from the pattern.

time to get off of this...got lots to do today including some peach jam

had a great trip to southern Mo then to South Dakota back to Mo and then home ... on the road for 2 weeks met some new people and saw a lot of great places.

some times I am a slow learner... I always lay my fabric choices out on the ironing board when I am making selections for applique. this is so I can get the freezer paper templates ironed on in the correct position. Up until today,

I have had the finished blocks laying out somewhere else.

Duh! why not tape them on the wall behind the board...

sure saves a lot of running back and forth!

I do want to get the applique done on this quilt before

I start the applique on Robert Callaham's " Album of Memories" and I am working on the backgrounds for it now.

Now, I guess I had better get to work pressing the templates down so I can get back to cutting pick and choose

nope I do not have all the sashing cut and sewn
but I am gaining. I have the NYEve quilt blocks
all made now and in the pile of quilts that need
set, waiting their turn. these pick and choose
blocks are what i am focusing on at this time...I am really happy with it so far. I am cutting half square triangles for the borders as I go thru the scraps for the sashing.

i thought I was done making center blocks...as i laid the quilt out I found I was short 1 connecting

strip ... the one with the green and gold HST on the ends! I went thru the box I have the quilt in...I guess I didn't even cut it! If it got mixed

in with another quilt it will end up being a compensating strip in an odds and ends quilt.

I will recut this strip...maybe, even tonight. I

have a hard time making a quilt out of just 3 or 4

fabrics. i am definately a scrappy quilter...this quilt has spent a year and a half being a leader ender quilt, i am so glad to see the center almost done. Of coarse now I have to think of borders.

I know you are thinking that i am slow...you are
right. I am still assembleing the focus(red)
block for the NYE 09 Mystery. since I am using it as a leader ender its taking more time than I expected. Remember the pick and choose quilt?
I am finely making (that includes cutting) a scrappy sashing. I am also as I get enough made
assembleing the quilt...then I have to cut borders
this will take time too...1/2 square triangles, unless I change my mind.

lately I have been spending more time cutting
and quilting than I have been sewing.I don't know haw long that will last...but at least I am
dealing with my boxes of scraps...trying to get tem into some kind of system...I have used most of my 1.5 strips and my 2" strips in my pick and choose quilt so I have to cut more 1.5 I don't
have enough...probably would have if i hadn't cut for a courthouse step quilt at the same time.

to make the same quilt it should be interesting.

We have done things like this before. sometimes

it is amazing how diferent the same pattern looks as we each do it in our own fabric, colorways, and

themes. I have to decide whether to go totally

scrappy, or if I am going to control the chaos.

I know I have not blogged for a couple of weeks...things here have been crazy. Holly is, after three weeks of coma, in rehab now. She

has so much to relearn but is progressing.

Leah and friend are still here visiting and I am now getting ready for my mission trip to Cuba.

the quilt that is pictured is a quilt that I made my mother in 1990. It is machine pieced and hand

quilted. It has faded over the years but, still

for over a week my life has been on hold...my granddaughter Holly was in a terrible accident
and lfe here has been about her. Yesterday we got the first hopeful news about her...she is still
in PCIU in cleveland with a terrible head injury and in crital condition but the Drs are talking
about the future! Until yesterday only the family had faith, Its going to be a long hard haul for
Holly but they are thinking she will be OK...We are celebrating!

Please, if you pray, Pray for Holly!

I made these little napkins while at a retreat...aren't they neat! The pattern was accually for Christmas napkins, but, I needed napkins for now. i just might make some for Christmas to...but first I have to get more

for now. I have been going green and most of my

napkins are down to 2 or 3 per set(and lots of singles) I will slowly build them back up.

Here it is Tuesday already and I still have no goals yet this week...hmmmmmmmm. Guess

I had better list them as I sit here. Since I have

been fighting a sinus infection they are simple

this week. So here they are for the week:

1. finish quilting and bind a baby quilt on DSM.

2. finish quilting a july 4th quilt for a friend

3. make a crossing Ohio block

things here have been rather crazy, I have busy with dr appointments and tests. I am beginning to feel like a guinny pig. Last night was spent in a sleep lab, tomarrow I get to
learn about tilt tables. all this to figure out why I pass out for no apparent reason.
but, the weekend is beginning to look up! Maybe, just maybe i will have something new
on my design wall on Monday...or at least show some progress on whats already up! IF I am thru with the tilt table in time I will be going to the retreat tomarrow, if not early Fri
morning, I am really looking forward to going!

Oh well, as usual I am working on more than one thing at once...The scrappy bagello has been
hanging around for more than a couple of years. I started cutting strips long ago, and am now
slicing panels for each row and assembling them into a quilt. I am also making 3 sizes of
9 patches as ender leaders that will eventually
be 3 different projects. the pick and choose blocks...I only have 4 more to make and then I start the sashing. this has been a block a week
project that I am way behind on, Irene is about
ready to quilt hers. the crossing Ohio is also a block a week thingie I have block 5 to do this week. Ofcoarse, these are helping with scrap
management!

Well, now that I have 4 blocks...I think I will set this quilt with a narrow sashing (1" finished)

I won't be sure until I am further ino the quilt...since I am only doing a block a week, I have

plenty of time to decide. I do like the way these 4 blocks look together.

I still have 4 blocks to do for my pick and choose quilt (also once a week) I am cutting

shashing for it as part of my scrap organization. there is always something to work on

when you are a quilter.

this is what I do with leftover soup...I still

have to wipe the calcium off the outside of

the jars and label and date this leftover

lentel soup...this is a Cuban reciept. I love

soup and to make soup I usually use a huge

kettle. This batch is what I had left from a carry-in. There are usually several choices in my

basement just waiting for me to heat up and

eat.

Irene was here yesterday, we spent about 3

hours playing in the sewing room. We both

finished up our 3rd crossing ohio block...plus

odds and ends. Irene has her pick and choose quilt set...and is thinking about borders...I

am still making blocks. I have a total of 5 to sew and still have to cut out 2 more...but I have

I must have a problem with sanity!

Yesterday Irene came over and we sewed til about 9

last night! I really cut almost as much as sewed. Irene

accually finished 3 flimsies... I just kept sewing and cutting.

I found when done I only have 5 more blocks to cut for my

pick and choose quilt(6 to sew)...so this morning I decided

strips into odd lengths for sashing. Yeah right, I had saved these strips over time and some were long enough to cut

for my courthouse step quilt that has had the grand total

3 blocks completed since 2003 so, you guessed it....I am cutting for both at the same time. the picture is of the strips I have to trim to size before I have to cut more for the sashing. The right side of the chairback are the ones I will get both quilts out of... and the drawer still has mountains

Well it's a party sewn block with the design wall in the background...much more than I have been posting lately.

the partially sewn block is crossing Ohio...and the wall

has the pick and choose showing...I still have quite a lot left to do on it...and miles of sashing to add. Crossing Ohio is my new block a week project, as is the Pick and Choose. I am

doing them both with Irene...but I am way behind on the

Pick and Choose...hopefully I will keep up on the new one.

The only thing that will be consistant on this will be the

blue solid...the red center will be different reds. I have no idea how large th finished quilt will be...the blue will decide that.

this bridge is as long as it looks in the picture...

how ever it is the quickest way to get to a park that has almost wild birds in it...they know that

bird seed will be given if they sit on a persons shoulder. they are protected here and have

no fear of humans. and yes this is me.

well, time has flown and i have little to show for it...these pictures are almost 2 months old!

I did finish the goose creek top and gave it to margaret before I got aa picture...you will just have to believe me!

I am bogging down on my many many UFO's...and have given myself permission to start

something new...I have cut pieces for a new quilt...crossing ohio, well I have the first block

cut. I am still working on the pick and choose quilt so this will be a leader ender for a while.

I also have a baby quilt to finish quilting...so i am busy.

but at least i am back...I know it's been 2 months, I haven't done much for the last
couple of months...just trying to get my life on track. its slowly but surely coming
together. Right in the middle of the chaos Miss Leah took me on a cruise to the
Western Carribian...wonderful trip! My friend Sally joined us, it was a great time
for us all! So much to see and so much to do!

Design wall Monday...Jan 18, 10

I know this is not a wall...its my dining room

table...since i forgot to flip the picture it kinda sorta looks like a wall!

to be honest, my wall looks just about the same

as it did last week...when i fell my neck was jarred and is far too tender to sew, so i haven't

been sewing. However I have an internal need

to play in fabric...so far these are the 2" squares

that i have found around here...the box with tapered sides has patches in sets of 5...these

will probably end up being a stack of 9 patches

the white front flat box is the 2" squares that I have found in various scrap boxes, they are not

sorted in any way. The shoe box in the back has been sorted into stacks of light dark medium.

hopefully by the time i have enough 16 patches for my quilt made i will have sorted the flat box

into the other 2...and they should all fit into the wedge box for 9 patches...the misc patches with the light med dark stacks sorted. I am in no hurry, this is a leader ender project. At this point

I think the pinwheel patches will be blue and white to off white. I have more blue than anything in my stash so I hope to keep blue as a focus for a while. The main thing tho is to get the 2" squares under control...I finely have the 2" strips in dark light order with nothing shorter than 12" in the drawer! Scrap maintence is an ongoing program!

I still have nothing to report...0 yardage used or purchased
talk about poor progress. I was hoping to have the lavendar to
purple baby quilt finished by now...BUT i fell several days ago
and have been too sore to machine quilt. I haven't been sewing either.
I guess I am a whimp. I am fine nothing broken...just very sore with
injured pride. Yes, I went to ER...I have been prodded and poked
and scanned and I do have tests schedualed Feb 16 to see if there
are underlying causes. nuff said on subject for now...i will know more
after my trip for when tests are schedualed.

as to my old or new quandry...I have decided to work on an old...
my shoe box of 2" squares will be first sewn into 4 patches, then
turn into 16 patches for a pinwheel and 16 patch quilt. I found
the barely started patches in my UFO stash and the shoe box is getting
hard to close...its a bonnie hunter pattern from forever ago!

I know its tuesday...but I did take my picture yesterday and this is what was on there then!

as uaual I have more than one quilt showing...ther are even pieces and parts of 2 others that

are up but did not fit in the picture. my pick and choose is back on the wall...i have 11 more blocks to cut, then it will go down until i am ready for the final assembly...maybe.

the rail fence is a 1999 start so it is my ufo focus. the 5 piece rails make a 7.5 finished block.

easy mindless sewing. obviously I do not work on one quilt at a time. always at least 3 or

4 at the piecing stage.

Here it is the first monday of the year! Ofcoarse my design wall has a carry over on it

from last year! I made the last of the blocks for this goose creek quilt as ender leaders as I worked on the lavender to purple quilt. I was short one block in the bottom row when i took the picture...its now done and I will be assembling the top soon.

every day is bringing some progress some shows, some doesn't...I want to keep making progress in my life through out the year.

Last year I tried this and found I was frustrated and obsessed because I was adding in gifted
fabric. I gave up. This year I am only keeping track of my fabric purchases and finished
use. It won't be as accurate and I know this...but I think if I keep track of my useage and
my purchases I will be able to see where my stash usage is gaining on my purchases.
maybe next year (or the one after that) I will be able to deal with the entire stash...but

The lavender to purple quilt is ready for borders...they

will be small and simple. I am acually on schedual with

this quilt! Unless leahs friend has her baby early I will

have the quilt done on time! at first I was not sure I liked

the quilt...i have trouble working in just 2 colors but with a full range of lavenders to purple i think it looks good.

of coarse I used really scrappy enders and leaders as i worked and that helped. I will probably put a narrow white border on first then a slightly wider lavendar one on next.

the quilt is large enough now...i just want the borders to stop the action...otherwise i would stop now and quilt it.

no picture just a statment of intent. I do not make new years resolutions because if i breake them i feel that i have failed...i do set goals so if i mess up I can get back on track! that said here are my goals for this year:

1. complete 12 quilts...they may be UFOs, WIPs or WHIMMs

2. Shop my stash first

3. Continue to Iron and organize my stash first.

4. get my eating back on track...5-7 serving, at least, of veggies or fruit per day

5. quit hibernating...Enjoy my friends!

12/21 Design wall's are meant to be crowded!

it seems like mine is always a jumble...until this week! However, if the truth be known, there are blocks hiding under the strips to the scrappy bargello until i get at least one of these off the wall!

One more block and the pick and choose quilt will

have one half of the blocks made! so far i haven't

duplicated any of the dark or medium fabrics in the blocks. Some times it takes as long to make sure I have a med or dark that is new to the quilt as it does to cut!

the scrappy lavendars to purple single Irish chain is a special request for a friend of Leah's. It

has to be done soon and has a large selection of lavendar to purples with no other colors in it!

i will be glad once I get all the 9 patches done...then the rest should go together nicely.

UFO is now a baby quilt!

This little quilt was 16 years in the making...no , not because

it was hard. The center was a panel that Miss Leah picked

out for her new nephew...the older brother of the quilt holder

in this picture! I think it will instead go to younger baby! It's been so long since I started this quilt I have no idea

why it was on hold for so long!

the quilt on yesterdays blog is my pick and choose quilt.

I am only making a block a week at this point in time.

if I ever get all 30 blocks cut out I will probably put it away

until I am closer to done. I am cutting the blocks as I work on my scrap management and I leave it up so I do not repeat any of the dark or medium fabric...yes, there are less of the

lights so they are repeated in many blocks. thank you for the posivive feed back on this quilt. I love the way it is coming together!

I finely remembered to take a Monday design

wall photo. I know its been 2 or three weeks.

I spent the last couple of weeks trying to beat

a deadline...I did get both baby quilts done on

time! I will post the second one as soon as I

get someone to hold it for me.

even after a couple of weeks the design wall hasn't changed much...i spent most of that time trying to get the baby quilts finished. I even managed to get a week behind on my pick and choose quilt...if I get it caught up I will be half way done at the end of the year! don't ask how I got a week behind...at a block a week i sure shouldn't have, they are easy blocks!

I am finely starting to work on my scrappy bargello here and there and the ender leaders

slowly gaining. sure hope I can at least see a gain in the progress on the wall next week

One baby quilt done

My machine that i use in the grace frame is very sick...I am going to have to take it in for repair.
The quilting for this little quilt was done on my DSM, it took me much longer to do because
i have done so little quilting this way. I have a second baby quilt about 2/3 quilted hope to get
it done yet this week! I know the week is almost done.

I am so excited...Miss leah and brad will be home for a week. It's been a long time since they both have been home. I wish they lived closer...cutting this short, i have to get back to my quilting...ann

acually there is less showing on my design wall than the last time i posted because the small sampler has much of it at the machine being worked on...i am hoping by next monday it will be a center. The pick and choose quilt is still up...I am

working on block 9...its due tomarrow. Once I get it all cut out I will probably take it down until I have it a lot closer to done...you if you are following my design wall are probably getting tired of looking at it, I know I am. I am trying to

not repeat the darks and mediums from block to block.

the easiest way to do this is to have it where i can see it as i cut.(my design wall is directly behind my cutting table)

one of the main problems with depression is I spend so much time playing catch up after days of stareing into space so i don't always get done what i planned. but , i have been having more good days than bad lately. so the catch up didn't take so long this time.

I am going to have to cut this short...gotta finish quilting margaret's quilt so I can get 2 baby

quilts done... yeah still playing catch up.

well, the center is done on this bargello heart...now to figure out the borders...wonder how long that will take me...I have kinda of an Idea will it work? only time will tell.

This center should have been done on Sunday, but I had

a couple of days of stareing into space. I have often wondered why when people are in a funk...why don't they

just work their way out by the boot straps. Now I know.

Sometimes it just doesn't work.

I am not inlove with the colors in this quilt...but I don't

have to be...just hope my grandson and wife like them.

its hard to work with colors that are not quite in your range.

but i think it will be a nice quilt ... just not mine! who knows

by the time its done i may love it.

yep, the dissapearing 9 patch that has been on auntie grace since April is finely done. It is a good thing because I have 3 quilts to get done by

Dec 6. they are all relitively small so they won't take long to put on the frame and will not need turned at the half way point. I will statr putting the first one on later today! I really feel like I am

getting somewhere with my goals.

This weeks goals are simple

1. get margaret's quilt on frame and start quilting it

2. finish piecing the center of the heart bargello

3. make block #9 of the pick and choose quilt

in fact this is most of the first 2 sectons that are ready to sew together. There is a third section

sewn but not yet pressed. Now I have to do the the last section...this one will take much more time because the strips need pieced from the leftovers from section 2...well, at least part of them do. I had pulled this quilt out of the stack of UFOs to work on as my focus for November. so far I have really been pleased at how fast every thing has gone together.

yesterday Irene was here sewing...and we were

both suprised that this went together as fast as it did!

my couch is currently my design wall, the design wall itself is full of my ongoing ender leader

projects. they are gaining too because there are so many seams in this heart quilt. BTW I finely got the batik and kona black Jacobs ladder completely assembled, yes the border is finely on.

will post a picture when I finely remember to take it.

I got the batik dissapearing 9 patch quilt to where i had to turn it on auntie grace...its ready

to do the other half...I have really been busy and accually sewing!

design wall is a jumble

this week...I have 3 ongoing projects on part of the wall

the other wall is a bunch of orphan blocks that i decided

to put together for a kids quilt for church...this is not yet written in stone...its still an the audition stage...but getting close to the final layout. there are enough orphan blocks around here for more than one quilt so i decided to start playing with them.

the other part of the wall has my finished pick and choose

blocks on it. I know I am not very far but i put the blocks up so i dont duplicate the colored fabrics. this is coming out of

my scraps and once i get all 30 blocks and the border cut these will probably come down until I get closer to done.

i am still doing about 1 block a week and figure they will be

done and ready to sash by Apr 15th...in the meantime I

am trying to get other tops done.

also hanging on this wall is the start to my bonnie hunters scrappy bargello quilt...plus a solid and kona black that is getting done a little at a time.

i am still working on my Kona black and batik jacobs ladder border. I would have been done long before now if i hadn't made some mistakes that required taking a whole border strip off and redoing. Hope to get

this top done SOON

hmmmmmmmmmm pretty dark

i guess i have to learn how to take pictures with the new camera...this is the center of a baby quilt. it is a fairly dark quilt but not this dark...i guess i should figure out how to
lighten the picture...or use the camera. given time i will
get it all together. I have to decide on borders...i thnik i have made up my mind on the inner border will probably put it on later this week.

Things here have been busy...I spent Fri and sat quilting with friends...truely a good time. Have been busy here at
home since then, trying to get a border on a quilt for a friend, only two more long seams and its out the door. I have now completed 6 blocks of my pick and choose quilt.
Irene is getting a break...she ran out of stuff at our sit and sew so she is up to block 9 and has decided to wait for me
to catch up.

My friend Irene and I have challenged each other

quilt...somehow or other I have gotten a week

since I have posted...I have no camera still, but I will have one soon. Leah has ordered me one
and it has been shipped! I feel like I have nothing to say when i have no pictures.

It has been really beautiful here the last couple of days! The sun definately improves my
mood. when it is cloudyand raining I am Doom and Gloom personified! I am gaining on my many projects, not as fast as i hoped but gaining!

Confesions of a closet hand piecer

i hate Y seams, but only by machine by hand

they are a piece of cake! of coarse this means

I am hand sewing this block to be set edge to

edge just cause i love the block...just not by

machine. I know it will take me forever but so do many of the quilts that i do by machine.

Since I have big ambitions, I also have a

grandmothers flower garden that I am piecing

by hand both for the Y seams and all the short

seams. Even tho the process is slow I have discovered I love relaxing with my hand sewing.

Many of my DJ blocks are by hand also. Now

when I take quilting with me to retreats I also take my hand applique etc.

I probably take far more machine work with me...and get more of it done, but the hand work

has become a part of my life...I truely love it.

my goals this week

I may not have a camera at this time but I do

have a working scanner so i thought I would

show the progress i have made on my applique triangle... I am more than half way. I have 4

to make, this is #1. I am making a heart

and apron strings quilt from QNM. it is a series

quilt from 2004...pieced and applique. Some where in this house the appliqued dresden

plate center is hiding. I am confident that it

will surface at some point in time. If it hasn't

by the time i have finished all the triangles and

blocks for all the rounds I will remake the

center. I have a long time to look. finished size

is 84 x 94.

I do have some simple goals for the week, after all it is monday!

1. finish assembling the borders for my batik and black Jacobs Ladder

2. finish one block of simple scrappy treasures BOM

3. Quilt the DNP thats been on auntie grace since april

4. Clear and clean cutting table so I can use it

5. Sew 15 min a day

goodness....it's been almost a month since i last posted. i have no pictures at this time,
my puppy all 80 lbs of her ate the usb cord to my camera and at this time i have no replacement.
i will probably end up buying a new camera...the only thing i have found as a replacement has been an universal usb that was within $5 of a replacement camera...hmmmmm doesnt make sence. my camera is old enough that it has no memoy card.

i had a neat trip las month, went as a guest with an old high school friend (we graduated in 1959) to cancun...saw so much. It makes me truly grateful that I LIVE HERE!

frankly, i havent been doing much in the quilting area, or much of anything else. I have been having a major bout of depression...the trip helped at least i am now beginning to take baby steps to get my life in order...one small step at a time.

i was at quilt camp last week end...and this is

stack over. had a great time! there is just something about quilting with friends!

Yes i have a stash report...I was down to about

1/2 yard of yellows...befor quilt camp. came home with 8 yds of yellow @ 2.50 a yard so my numbers went up not down

maybe if i get every thing down to a few shelves i will measure. I even weighed the boxes of

scraps cause i figure i use them too.

Cully is home from camp...so the design wall is

getting quite crowded...both of our focus quilts

are getting pretty large.

Cully's double 4 patch is getting borders. he has one more side to add to 1st border, the whatever

he is going to add next.

the goose creek quilt needs 18 more blocks, so I have a ways to go. I have one more house block to make for the simple scrappy treasures quilt...then i wll be making friendship stars.

i did get one more setof black and solids done on the 9patch and snowball. pulling 3 quilts out of

the UFO stack and working on them for a month seems to be working...my goal was to gain

on them and i have..

this weeks quilting goals are:

1. to get at least one more block done on each of these three quilts.

2. get one more side of my geese border assembled

3. get the bad tension quilting picked out of the batik quilt and restart it.

4. remember to continue working on the kids quilts for Church.

my design basically has 3 ongoing projects
on it...goose creek blocks are to the left. Since
Cully is at boy scout camp for the week I can use
his space til he is back. It give s me a chance for
a tenitive lay out on my goose creek quilt
I am over half way

I have my right side border on my offset geese
ready to assemble. Once I take them down I
will get the other sides ready to go too. this is
my focus quilt for the week.

My simple scrappy treasures quilt is slowly gaining too...this week i am working on
houses. I made all the frayed 4 patch
blocks so they will go back into the box.

I did get a set of snow ball and 9 patch
made last week...

its going to take a lot of leader enders to get the goose borders assembled to I am using my
ongoing blocks in this way. they dont get done real fast this way however my goal was to gain
on them this month and i think (know) I will.

I finished this Kids quilt for church for one of the boys,

definately a UFO! I am turning it in next week and hopefully i will have his sisters done too. I have about 3 more about

ready to go, and another one barely started. I guess its

a case of just getting to them.

I am slowly gaining on both the UFO list and the WIPS.

Its nice to sandwhich these smaller quilts between the bed

sized ones. I have a full to queen ready to go on the quilt frame...all I have to do is fire up the machine. bobbins are

wound and waiting.

Leah went home yesterday so I was kinda like a lost

puppy today. I think she might be back in october,

if not then during the holidays

I'm tired, I think I am going togive up for the night.

well the design wall is kinda organized...Cully's quilt just

needs his borders. He has the inner border cut just has to assemble it. his double 4 patch is to the right.

to the left of that is the start of my geese, then further left

well, right now it looks like a mess...I pulled 3 UFOs from the stack to work on this month.
I sure hope I gain on them...If I bog down on one of them I will switch it out and try
again in an other month to get some thing done on it.
there is snowball and 9 patch from a swap up there from a swap, goose creek from
a no sew swap, and 2 blocks from Simple Scrappy Treasures a BOM from Claudia's

Quilt Shop...all 3 have a long way to go. All I want to do is gain on them.

Cully's quilt that he is working on is really coming together. he has the rows all made and

is ready to sew the horizontal rows.

I finely got the pieced borders on the scrappy X and O quilt only have the last plain borders to add. The batik and kona black Jacobs ladder? i am now piecing an offset flying goose border.

had a fun day today, Irene, from Ohio Quilters was here all day ... she was cutting for a quilt,

I was cutting and piecing. It alwas seems to go better when 2 people are working on their

projects...Of coarse cully was here about an hour too!

Tomarrow evening I pick Leah up at the airport...it probably won't be a quilty day! I will

really be glad to see her!

I did not report in last week...had puter problems.

My son helped me get back on line so i did the

No last weeks quilts are not done...but I took them down to work on borders put the Jacobs ladder blocks up and will start arranging them tomarrow. about 1/2 of these were from swaps.

The double 4 patch blocks are not mine.

my 14 year old grandson cully went thru my books and decided that he wanted to learn to quilt...he has picked his own pattern and fabric from my stash. guess i will see a lot of him as he works on this. cully decided he wants a twin sized quilt!

have to make a design change...I guess thats why i use a design wall. The chinese coins
need revamped...the balance was off and it is wider than long...so i am removing one row
and adding those peices to the other six rows. the good thing is i have decided on the sashing,
and i am liking this quilt! that really helps. i guess its a good thing that I am an expert at
reverse sewing. Hopfully this will not throw me too far behind...

i spent a couple hours clearing the veggie garden today...i have been doing a little every
day for the last couple of weeks. I have made enough progress that I can get a large section of it planted. perenial weeds have taken it over after 2 years of neglect...it didn't even get mowed
down last year. its kinda awsome to see where I've cleared next to where I haven't.
some of the weeds are taller than me. I am about 3/4 done with the clearing. I only work
out there in the morning and evenings. I hide in the house in the middle of the day.
Of coarse this means my flower beds are neglected!

what's on my design wall 6/8/09

Not much has changed...I accually got all 7 strips made for the chinese coin quilt made.

I am now adding the siggy squares with a decorative

stitch. the missing strips all need one or two more

siggys added. It is taking forever I ran into a bad

spool of thread and have to sew really slow...but

hopefully I will get the rest of the strips done this

week and the shashing on. then comes the border

decisions.

The other half of the wall has no change...so i did not

retake that in this picture...the chinese coin quilt

has a deadline, early July so this is my focus.

well I didn't buy any fabric, and used very little so I am still in the red
but I have no guilt...Most of the red was gifted fabric and I love it!

Baby Colton's quilt is done!

The label is on, quilt is washed and dried...baby (Great grandson) will get his quilt as soon as i get it packaged and mailed!

Here it is after 7 in the evening and that is about the only quilty thing i have done for the day! Maybe I will get more done after i decide to call it quits on this puter.

my grandson and I have been trying to get my garden in shape for planting...with weeds over my head that means lots of hand pulling before I can even dig. I have been digging in the evenings...I only get about one and a half

hour from Cully every day. rainy days we work in the

garage...I am putting my books and material in there, that way all my stuff for quilting will be on this floor.

guess I had better find something for supper...have a great day

the bottom picture is where i started...the top picture is where I am now...the diamonds

hanging betweenthe 2 quilts is the start of my simple borderfor the X and O quilt.

2nd quilt is accually almost ready for me to add the siggy strips. I have one more

coin to add to one strip...the last strip is over half done.hopefully, i will have all the strips

on this one done and the siggys partially done. sinceyou guys are watching me maybe

I will be able to stay on track.

well, at least i didn't add any fabric this week. I have the feeling I am going to be
in the hole at the end of the year...Big Time! I just have one small finish, but its
a finish for the week!

This is the first time I have been able to post to this list...finely figured out how
to post the url to a spacific post...it only took 5 months to figure that one out!
guess i shoulda asked.

I thought I knew what I wanted on my border for my X and O quilt now I am not really

sure. The bottom picture is what I planned, I think its too busy. However if I turn the diamonds on their sides the border opens up(top phot0)...matches the effect of the quilt better

IMHO...

Now i am asking you for your opinion.

Judy L asked this question earlier this week...each week we are to post on our blogs and link to
hers to help measure progress of ongoing projects. I guess if i make it public, i will be more apt
to stick to my guns!

The quilt on the left needs borders...i am working on them now. I am also working on a chinese coin
wedding quilt for a friend of leahs. As
soon as I have the strips done to please me i will add appliqued siggy
blocks to the white sections.

i was unable to go to the wedding,
so people signed the blocks too close to the edge, so i am putting them on with a decorative stitch...2 more rows to assemble and then i start adding the siggies and hopefully you will be able to read what people wrote....
all but one, she wrote good wishes on the front and signed it on the back!
i am not really sure how i will handle that one!

acccually, I am working on both quilts at the same time. I am working on the border of the scrappy Xand O using it as leader enders for the chinese coin strips. I will lock in on the chinese
coins when i no longer need the leader enders cause i want to have it done by July when Leah
is home. At that time I will pull another quilt that needs done, I do like working on more than
one at a time. Whats on your design wall?

1st purse is done!

Ihave finely finished something...this is my very first purse!!! It's got pockets both in and out,
the closer is a zipper. My DIL Beth is modeling it. I think this purse is for a larger person than Beth...she is only 5'1"... i will probably make some changes in the next one, but, at least i have gotten my feet wet with this one! it wasn't as hard as i thought it would be.

oh my...its a good thing i did not bet money or anything that I would have less stash at the end of the year than i started with!! as i said in my last post i was gifted a huge amount of fabric from friends. Really huge!

from friends on QOR i received 7.5 yds in florals they are beautiful! mosty FQs Then the very
next day Jan from SD (and her friends) cleaned and organized their stash! they sent me aprox
258yds (Measured by weight) of their excess fabric...its great fabric too! Quite a selection! i am rearanging my stash storage, so it will be forever before i get it all put away!

so this week my report is:

Net fabric used -262 yds Yep that is a minus!
