12/21 Design wall's are meant to be crowded!

it seems like mine is always a jumble...until this week! However, if the truth be known, there are blocks hiding under the strips to the scrappy bargello until i get at least one of these off the wall!
One more block and the pick and choose quilt will
have one half of the blocks made! so far i haven't
duplicated any of the dark or medium fabrics in the blocks. Some times it takes as long to make sure I have a med or dark that is new to the quilt as it does to cut!
the scrappy lavendars to purple single Irish chain is a special request for a friend of Leah's. It
has to be done soon and has a large selection of lavendar to purples with no other colors in it!
i will be glad once I get all the 9 patches done...then the rest should go together nicely.
have a great quilty day

UFO is now a baby quilt!

This little quilt was 16 years in the making...no , not because
it was hard. The center was a panel that Miss Leah picked
out for her new nephew...the older brother of the quilt holder
in this picture! I think it will instead go to younger baby! It's been so long since I started this quilt I have no idea
why it was on hold for so long!
the quilt on yesterdays blog is my pick and choose quilt.
I am only making a block a week at this point in time.
if I ever get all 30 blocks cut out I will probably put it away
until I am closer to done. I am cutting the blocks as I work on my scrap management and I leave it up so I do not repeat any of the dark or medium fabric...yes, there are less of the
lights so they are repeated in many blocks. thank you for the posivive feed back on this quilt. I love the way it is coming together!

design wall monday dec 7, 09

I finely remembered to take a Monday design
wall photo. I know its been 2 or three weeks.
I spent the last couple of weeks trying to beat
a deadline...I did get both baby quilts done on
time! I will post the second one as soon as I
get someone to hold it for me.
even after a couple of weeks the design wall hasn't changed much...i spent most of that time trying to get the baby quilts finished. I even managed to get a week behind on my pick and choose quilt...if I get it caught up I will be half way done at the end of the year! don't ask how I got a week behind...at a block a week i sure shouldn't have, they are easy blocks!
I am finely starting to work on my scrappy bargello here and there and the ender leaders
slowly gaining. sure hope I can at least see a gain in the progress on the wall next week

One baby quilt done

My machine that i use in the grace frame is very sick...I am going to have to take it in for repair.
The quilting for this little quilt was done on my DSM, it took me much longer to do because
i have done so little quilting this way. I have a second baby quilt about 2/3 quilted hope to get
it done yet this week! I know the week is almost done.

I am so excited...Miss leah and brad will be home for a week. It's been a long time since they both have been home. I wish they lived closer...cutting this short, i have to get back to my quilting...ann

late design wall monday, its wednesday!

acually there is less showing on my design wall than the last time i posted because the small sampler has much of it at the machine being worked on...i am hoping by next monday it will be a center. The pick and choose quilt is still up...I am
working on block 9...its due tomarrow. Once I get it all cut out I will probably take it down until I have it a lot closer to done...you if you are following my design wall are probably getting tired of looking at it, I know I am. I am trying to
not repeat the darks and mediums from block to block.
the easiest way to do this is to have it where i can see it as i cut.(my design wall is directly behind my cutting table)
one of the main problems with depression is I spend so much time playing catch up after days of stareing into space so i don't always get done what i planned. but , i have been having more good days than bad lately. so the catch up didn't take so long this time.
I am going to have to cut this short...gotta finish quilting margaret's quilt so I can get 2 baby
quilts done... yeah still playing catch up.

Sundays goal finely reached...on tuesday

well, the center is done on this bargello heart...now to figure out the borders...wonder how long that will take me...I have kinda of an Idea will it work? only time will tell.
This center should have been done on Sunday, but I had
a couple of days of stareing into space. I have often wondered why when people are in a funk...why don't they
just work their way out by the boot straps. Now I know.
Sometimes it just doesn't work.
I am not inlove with the colors in this quilt...but I don't
have to be...just hope my grandson and wife like them.
its hard to work with colors that are not quite in your range.
but i think it will be a nice quilt ... just not mine! who knows
by the time its done i may love it.
every one have a great day

It's off the frame!

yep, the dissapearing 9 patch that has been on auntie grace since April is finely done. It is a good thing because I have 3 quilts to get done by
Dec 6. they are all relitively small so they won't take long to put on the frame and will not need turned at the half way point. I will statr putting the first one on later today! I really feel like I am
getting somewhere with my goals.
This weeks goals are simple
1. get margaret's quilt on frame and start quilting it
2. finish piecing the center of the heart bargello
3. make block #9 of the pick and choose quilt
ann

heart bargello now has a good start

in fact this is most of the first 2 sectons that are ready to sew together. There is a third section
sewn but not yet pressed. Now I have to do the the last section...this one will take much more time because the strips need pieced from the leftovers from section 2...well, at least part of them do. I had pulled this quilt out of the stack of UFOs to work on as my focus for November. so far I have really been pleased at how fast every thing has gone together.
yesterday Irene was here sewing...and we were
both suprised that this went together as fast as it did!
my couch is currently my design wall, the design wall itself is full of my ongoing ender leader
projects. they are gaining too because there are so many seams in this heart quilt. BTW I finely got the batik and kona black Jacobs ladder completely assembled, yes the border is finely on.
will post a picture when I finely remember to take it.
I got the batik dissapearing 9 patch quilt to where i had to turn it on auntie grace...its ready
to do the other half...I have really been busy and accually sewing!
every one have a great day!

design wall is a jumble

this week...I have 3 ongoing projects on part of the wall
the other wall is a bunch of orphan blocks that i decided
to put together for a kids quilt for church...this is not yet written in stone...its still an the audition stage...but getting close to the final layout. there are enough orphan blocks around here for more than one quilt so i decided to start playing with them.
the other part of the wall has my finished pick and choose
blocks on it. I know I am not very far but i put the blocks up so i dont duplicate the colored fabrics. this is coming out of
my scraps and once i get all 30 blocks and the border cut these will probably come down until I get closer to done.
i am still doing about 1 block a week and figure they will be
done and ready to sash by Apr 15th...in the meantime I
am trying to get other tops done.
also hanging on this wall is the start to my bonnie hunters scrappy bargello quilt...plus a solid and kona black that is getting done a little at a time.
i am still working on my Kona black and batik jacobs ladder border. I would have been done long before now if i hadn't made some mistakes that required taking a whole border strip off and redoing. Hope to get
this top done SOON

hmmmmmmmmmm pretty dark

i guess i have to learn how to take pictures with the new camera...this is the center of a baby quilt. it is a fairly dark quilt but not this dark...i guess i should figure out how to
lighten the picture...or use the camera. given time i will
get it all together. I have to decide on borders...i thnik i have made up my mind on the inner border will probably put it on later this week.

Things here have been busy...I spent Fri and sat quilting with friends...truely a good time. Have been busy here at
home since then, trying to get a border on a quilt for a friend, only two more long seams and its out the door. I have now completed 6 blocks of my pick and choose quilt.
Irene is getting a break...she ran out of stuff at our sit and sew so she is up to block 9 and has decided to wait for me
to catch up.

Back to the borders

finely...a camera!

thankyou Miss Leah! Of coarse being pretty
electronicly illiterate I took camera and directions
next door and my grandson helped me get
things set up!
My friend Irene and I have challenged each other
to do a block a week to make the Pick and Choose
quilt...somehow or other I have gotten a week
ahead...I use this block as a leader ender...
I suppose I will loose a week, at least, over the
holidays so I will just stay a week ahead for a
while. I am doing my quilt scrappy, Irene is
doing hers scrappy within a theme(civil war).
I have a comfort quilt to get assembled so i had better get to work on it so i can send it on

It's been a while

since I have posted...I have no camera still, but I will have one soon. Leah has ordered me one
and it has been shipped! I feel like I have nothing to say when i have no pictures.

It has been really beautiful here the last couple of days! The sun definately improves my
mood. when it is cloudyand raining I am Doom and Gloom personified! I am gaining on my many projects, not as fast as i hoped but gaining!

have a great day

Confesions of a closet hand piecer

i hate Y seams, but only by machine by hand
they are a piece of cake! of coarse this means
I am hand sewing this block to be set edge to
edge just cause i love the block...just not by
machine. I know it will take me forever but so do many of the quilts that i do by machine.
Since I have big ambitions, I also have a
grandmothers flower garden that I am piecing
by hand both for the Y seams and all the short
seams. Even tho the process is slow I have discovered I love relaxing with my hand sewing.
Many of my DJ blocks are by hand also. Now
when I take quilting with me to retreats I also take my hand applique etc.
I probably take far more machine work with me...and get more of it done, but the hand work
has become a part of my life...I truely love it.
A friend took this picture for me while I was visiting her home the first of the week, thankyou
Pat.

my goals this week

I may not have a camera at this time but I do
have a working scanner so i thought I would
show the progress i have made on my applique triangle... I am more than half way. I have 4
to make, this is #1. I am making a heart
and apron strings quilt from QNM. it is a series
quilt from 2004...pieced and applique. Some where in this house the appliqued dresden
plate center is hiding. I am confident that it
will surface at some point in time. If it hasn't
by the time i have finished all the triangles and
blocks for all the rounds I will remake the
center. I have a long time to look. finished size
is 84 x 94.
I do have some simple goals for the week, after all it is monday!
1. finish assembling the borders for my batik and black Jacobs Ladder
2. finish one block of simple scrappy treasures BOM
3. Quilt the DNP thats been on auntie grace since april
4. Clear and clean cutting table so I can use it
5. Sew 15 min a day
back to taking baby steps

just checking in

goodness....it's been almost a month since i last posted. i have no pictures at this time,
my puppy all 80 lbs of her ate the usb cord to my camera and at this time i have no replacement.
i will probably end up buying a new camera...the only thing i have found as a replacement has been an universal usb that was within $5 of a replacement camera...hmmmmm doesnt make sence. my camera is old enough that it has no memoy card.

i had a neat trip las month, went as a guest with an old high school friend (we graduated in 1959) to cancun...saw so much. It makes me truly grateful that I LIVE HERE!

frankly, i havent been doing much in the quilting area, or much of anything else. I have been having a major bout of depression...the trip helped at least i am now beginning to take baby steps to get my life in order...one small step at a time.

what happened here

i was at quilt camp last week end...and this is
as close as i came to putting stuff away...ah well
at least i can still sew as long as i don't knock a
stack over. had a great time! there is just something about quilting with friends!
Yes i have a stash report...I was down to about
1/2 yard of yellows...befor quilt camp. came home with 8 yds of yellow @ 2.50 a yard so my numbers went up not down
yardage busted this week 00 yds
yardage busted this year 98.5 yds
yardage added 8 yds
yardage added this year 334.5 yds
net used for year minus 236 yds
I do not have to send penalty charms in to stashbusters challenge...this is still from the gift
money i was given for Christmas and B day just for fabric.
I probably will not get much sewing done this week...I am planning a major trip.
I was asked after my last report how i figured the original total amnt of fabric I have.
I weighed it...figuring about 3.50 yds per pound...i know its closer to 3.74 but weighed it containers and all... I know i don't have an accurate number but i have a number...
maybe if i get every thing down to a few shelves i will measure. I even weighed the boxes of
scraps cause i figure i use them too.

stash report #31

I have no changes from last week...i spent most of the week sorting and potsing around.
did a lot of frog stitching. I hope to see more progress next week. and i know i will spend
a lot of time sorting and cutting. Stash management has become a priority.

design wall monday July 27, 09

Cully is home from camp...so the design wall is
getting quite crowded...both of our focus quilts
are getting pretty large.
Cully's double 4 patch is getting borders. he has one more side to add to 1st border, the whatever
he is going to add next.
the goose creek quilt needs 18 more blocks, so I have a ways to go. I have one more house block to make for the simple scrappy treasures quilt...then i wll be making friendship stars.
i did get one more setof black and solids done on the 9patch and snowball. pulling 3 quilts out of
the UFO stack and working on them for a month seems to be working...my goal was to gain
on them and i have..
this weeks quilting goals are:
1. to get at least one more block done on each of these three quilts.
2. get one more side of my geese border assembled
3. get the bad tension quilting picked out of the batik quilt and restart it.
4. remember to continue working on the kids quilts for Church.

I will probably post a picture later today. Any way I have a number
change.

Design wall Monday...July 20,09

my design basically has 3 ongoing projects
on it...goose creek blocks are to the left. Since
Cully is at boy scout camp for the week I can use
his space til he is back. It give s me a chance for
a tenitive lay out on my goose creek quilt
I am over half way

I have my right side border on my offset geese
ready to assemble. Once I take them down I
will get the other sides ready to go too. this is
my focus quilt for the week.

My simple scrappy treasures quilt is slowly gaining too...this week i am working on
houses. I made all the frayed 4 patch
blocks so they will go back into the box.

I did get a set of snow ball and 9 patch
made last week...

its going to take a lot of leader enders to get the goose borders assembled to I am using my
ongoing blocks in this way. they dont get done real fast this way however my goal was to gain
on them this month and i think (know) I will.

Sunday, July 19, 2009

stash report #29 July 19, 2009

Since I had a small finish this week I am still getting my numbers to keep creeping down.

Fabric added this week 00 yds
Fabric added this Year 326.5 yds

Fabric busted this week 7.5 yds
Fabric busted this year 89.5 Yds

net fabric busted year to date minus 227 yards

yep I still in the red, but as long as it keeps going down
I feel good...I do know that I have bought less than
20 yards of fabric, the rest was gifted to me and I love
it all! I some times just Pet the fabric! hmmmmmmmm
that doesn't get much busted!

I finished this Kids quilt for church for one of the boys,
definately a UFO! I am turning it in next week and hopefully i will have his sisters done too. I have about 3 more about
ready to go, and another one barely started. I guess its
a case of just getting to them.
I am slowly gaining on both the UFO list and the WIPS.
Its nice to sandwhich these smaller quilts between the bed
sized ones. I have a full to queen ready to go on the quilt frame...all I have to do is fire up the machine. bobbins are
wound and waiting.
Leah went home yesterday so I was kinda like a lost
puppy today. I think she might be back in october,
if not then during the holidays
I'm tired, I think I am going togive up for the night.

Design wall Monday...on Wednesday

well the design wall is kinda organized...Cully's quilt just
needs his borders. He has the inner border cut just has to assemble it. his double 4 patch is to the right.
to the left of that is the start of my geese, then further left
towards the top are the simple scrappy treasures blocks
that I am working on...blow them are my goose creek
blocks. far left are the snow ball and 9 patch blocks.
Are you confused yet?
on the chair is my assembled Jacobs ladder with one
half of the first solid border. I still have to put the top and bottom strips on.
I will be glad to get all the geese made...I don't think I
have enough cut...but i will wait til i have these sewn and
offset and then if i need to i will cut more.
i have not been getting much done as far as sewing goes.
things here are way great, have spent my sewing time playing and visiting with miss Leah.

whats on my design wall...July 6,2009

well, right now it looks like a mess...I pulled 3 UFOs from the stack to work on this month.
I sure hope I gain on them...If I bog down on one of them I will switch it out and try
again in an other month to get some thing done on it.
there is snowball and 9 patch from a swap up there from a swap, goose creek from
a no sew swap, and 2 blocks from Simple Scrappy Treasures a BOM from Claudia's
Quilt Shop...all 3 have a long way to go. All I want to do is gain on them.
Cully's quilt that he is working on is really coming together. he has the rows all made and
is ready to sew the horizontal rows.
I finely got the pieced borders on the scrappy X and O quilt only have the last plain borders to add. The batik and kona black Jacobs ladder? i am now piecing an offset flying goose border.
center is done.
had a fun day today, Irene, from Ohio Quilters was here all day ... she was cutting for a quilt,
I was cutting and piecing. It alwas seems to go better when 2 people are working on their
projects...Of coarse cully was here about an hour too!
Tomarrow evening I pick Leah up at the airport...it probably won't be a quilty day! I will
really be glad to see her!
every one out there have a great evening!

No last weeks quilts are not done...but I took them down to work on borders put the Jacobs ladder blocks up and will start arranging them tomarrow. about 1/2 of these were from swaps.

The double 4 patch blocks are not mine.

my 14 year old grandson cully went thru my books and decided that he wanted to learn to quilt...he has picked his own pattern and fabric from my stash. guess i will see a lot of him as he works on this. cully decided he wants a twin sized quilt!

OOPsssssssss

have to make a design change...I guess thats why i use a design wall. The chinese coins
need revamped...the balance was off and it is wider than long...so i am removing one row
and adding those peices to the other six rows. the good thing is i have decided on the sashing,
and i am liking this quilt! that really helps. i guess its a good thing that I am an expert at
reverse sewing. Hopfully this will not throw me too far behind...

i spent a couple hours clearing the veggie garden today...i have been doing a little every
day for the last couple of weeks. I have made enough progress that I can get a large section of it planted. perenial weeds have taken it over after 2 years of neglect...it didn't even get mowed
down last year. its kinda awsome to see where I've cleared next to where I haven't.
some of the weeds are taller than me. I am about 3/4 done with the clearing. I only work
out there in the morning and evenings. I hide in the house in the middle of the day.
Of coarse this means my flower beds are neglected!

every one have a great day

what's on my design wall 6/8/09

Not much has changed...I accually got all 7 strips made for the chinese coin quilt made.
I am now adding the siggy squares with a decorative
stitch. the missing strips all need one or two more
siggys added. It is taking forever I ran into a bad
spool of thread and have to sew really slow...but
hopefully I will get the rest of the strips done this
week and the shashing on. then comes the border
decisions.
The other half of the wall has no change...so i did not
retake that in this picture...the chinese coin quilt
has a deadline, early July so this is my focus.

Baby Colton's quilt is done!

The label is on, quilt is washed and dried...baby (Great grandson) will get his quilt as soon as i get it packaged and mailed!
Here it is after 7 in the evening and that is about the only quilty thing i have done for the day! Maybe I will get more done after i decide to call it quits on this puter.
my grandson and I have been trying to get my garden in shape for planting...with weeds over my head that means lots of hand pulling before I can even dig. I have been digging in the evenings...I only get about one and a half
hour from Cully every day. rainy days we work in the
garage...I am putting my books and material in there, that way all my stuff for quilting will be on this floor.
guess I had better find something for supper...have a great day

stash report week #22

well, at least i didn't add any fabric this week. I have the feeling I am going to be
in the hole at the end of the year...Big Time! I just have one small finish, but its
a finish for the week!

This is the first time I have been able to post to this list...finely figured out how

guess i shoulda asked.

anyway here goes

Fabric used year to date 58 yds

fabric added this week 00 yds
fabric added year to date 317 yds

Net fabric used year to date - 259 yds

Border quandry

I thought I knew what I wanted on my border for my X and O quilt now I am not really
sure. The bottom picture is what I planned, I think its too busy. However if I turn the diamonds on their sides the border opens up(top phot0)...matches the effect of the quilt better
IMHO...
Now i am asking you for your opinion.
thankyou for taking the time to answer

whats on my design wall..May 29, 2009

Judy L asked this question earlier this week...each week we are to post on our blogs and link to
hers to help measure progress of ongoing projects. I guess if i make it public, i will be more apt
to stick to my guns!

The quilt on the left needs borders...i am working on them now. I am also working on a chinese coin
wedding quilt for a friend of leahs. As
soon as I have the strips done to please me i will add appliqued siggy
blocks to the white sections.

i was unable to go to the wedding,
so people signed the blocks too close to the edge, so i am putting them on with a decorative stitch...2 more rows to assemble and then i start adding the siggies and hopefully you will be able to read what people wrote....
all but one, she wrote good wishes on the front and signed it on the back!
i am not really sure how i will handle that one!

acccually, I am working on both quilts at the same time. I am working on the border of the scrappy Xand O using it as leader enders for the chinese coin strips. I will lock in on the chinese
coins when i no longer need the leader enders cause i want to have it done by July when Leah
is home. At that time I will pull another quilt that needs done, I do like working on more than
one at a time. Whats on your design wall?

1st purse is done!

Ihave finely finished something...this is my very first purse!!! It's got pockets both in and out,
the closer is a zipper. My DIL Beth is modeling it. I think this purse is for a larger person than Beth...she is only 5'1"... i will probably make some changes in the next one, but, at least i have gotten my feet wet with this one! it wasn't as hard as i thought it would be.

stash report week #21

oh my...its a good thing i did not bet money or anything that I would have less stash at the end of the year than i started with!! as i said in my last post i was gifted a huge amount of fabric from friends. Really huge!

from friends on QOR i received 7.5 yds in florals they are beautiful! mosty FQs Then the very
next day Jan from SD (and her friends) cleaned and organized their stash! they sent me aprox
258yds (Measured by weight) of their excess fabric...its great fabric too! Quite a selection! i am rearanging my stash storage, so it will be forever before i get it all put away!

so this week my report is:

Fabric used this week: 00 yds
fabric used year to date: 55 yds

Gifted fabric added this week: 265yds
fabric added year to date: 317yds

Net fabric used -262 yds Yep that is a minus!

i think i had better get to work!!!!!!!!

Friends!

the last two days have beenfull of friends! yester day Kris and her husband and son stopped here on their way home from cleveland with a load of fabric that had been gifted to me from Jan in ND. I am truely grateful and a little overwhelmed! there were aprox 258 yds of fabric, by weight ofcoarse, that she had brought from Jan's house to me! when i thanked Jan she told me that she and several friends had cleaned their stashes! WOW! It is all great quilty material!Thankyou north dakota girls...now to get to work on some quilts for kids at church.

today was great! Franny and Margaret came up from Columbus and we sewed all day! I am still having trouble focusing for long periods of time so i was up and down all day but i got a lot done on a purse...hope to finish it tomarrow, I have all the parts made now comes the assembly.

Franny and margaret brought me a basket of flowers that is the picture i posted on this post. in and among the flowers were fat quarters and larger peices of floral prints!! I am going to be one busy lady! Thankyou QOR girls! Iknew they were coming to sew...i did not know about the flowers!

I feel very blessed and loved, every one have a great quilty weekend!

week #19- no change

this was a family week...my son beau and his wife terry were here for the weekend
from oregon! what a wonderful mothers day present! we worked, beau fixed many
things that have been neglected for the past year AND he and one of my nephews
carried all my storage units and heavy stuff up from the basement so my sewing and quilting
storage is now up here so are all my sewing machines. i still have many totes to bring
up...they ran out of time. will have pictures as soon as i get some from every one.

we had great food, beau is a great cook and taught my 2 grandsons that live next door
some speciality items...we just had a great time the whole weekend!!! i can't wait
for next fall when they come back.

ps i am finely sewing again,, started today!

stash report 17 and 18

i have gone backwards...way backwards.

i was gifted a huge stack of fabrics at a quilt retreat over the week end...i think every one
there probably thru some in. i weighed the fabric in, too much to measure and there is close
to eighty yards of fabric or more here. plus i had a gift card here, that i used for 5 yards
of Kona black and 2 yards of neutrals. (i bought these before i was gifted). i also had used a
gift card for a yard of quilted fabric for a purse for leah. so...........

week 17, no change

week#18

fabric added this week 88 yds
fabric added this year 107 yds

fabric busted this week 000 yds
fabric busted this year 55 yds

net busted this year -52 yds

hmmmmmmmm i think i had better get to work on my quilts or i am going to be in the hole
at the end of the year. i do know a friend in north dakota has sent a sizeable amount of
fabric to me too so when it arrives i will be even more in reverse. i am not whining, i love
scraps and gifted fabrics, its just kinda overwhelming when it comes in!!! it will be used!

thank you every one!!!

Larry will be missed

for those of you who have been following my blog...i have sad news. Larry passed away
at 7:56 wed morning. He was comfortable at the end. He had a very long year fighting his
cancer, some of it was good. he chose to be able to spend most of the last year in our home,
he did have 3 hospital stays, but in the end he was comfortable at home.

he was a good man, well loved by family and friends. Larry's memorial service will
be later today where he wanted it, in his own back yard with family and friends
attending. i was truely blessed to be able to care for him this past year.

stash report #16
no changes this week...nothing in nothing out so....
fabric added year to date 19 yds

i found this UFO from when leah was about 4... she is now almost 28. i know why i set it aside, i dont really like the setting. i am thinking of taking it apart and putting a full round of white around the flowers, then put in a scrappy green seperator like shasing between . i have 11 flowers together.20 some odd to add. its way past time to get this done. 20 years is long enough.
what i might do is try the finished but not in the quilt yet flowers the way i see it in my mind.
this has been pieced by hand...so it will be tricky there is a lot of back stitching to deal with.
i have plenty of time for hand stitching right now...larry is now on roxanol and i have
to keep a closer eye on him...he is now still ambluatory, but needs an assist. so i am sitting
and hand stitching...cause he keeps forgetting he cannot walk alone.

well, i was hoping to be ready to quilt today...and i still haven't finished getting the frame together...i am changing the tubing that holds the aprons on. i only have one to do. the top

laying on the floor in back of the frame on the middle rod is waiting patiently for me to

get going. accually its even a UFO started before larry got sick last year. the top has been

done since probably dec.

i have gotten most of the displaced furniture in its new home. it just takes about 3 times

as long to do anything than i expected. there is room between his hospital bed and the

quilting frame for my matress...so i am not displaced. if he decides to sleep back there

there is room for both of us. he has been sleeping in the recliner in the living room, feels

more comfortable there.

i hope to get some more work done in the sun room or sewing done here in the living room

today...it just depends how much company larry gets today. have a great quilty day

i did not do much sewing this week...just a few min one day.
so there are no changes to my numbers.

larry has had a rough week, brandy and josh's wedding took a lot out of him.
too much going on and he was super tired...he is finely feeling a bit better.

UFO done just in time for a 1st quarter finish

my goal for the year was and is one UFO finished each month, plus several WIP's also
completed...well, as of march 31 i have completed 3 UFOs and 2 WIPs...it sure would be nice
to keep up at this rate.
the picture posted is the sisters choice quilt that i made for my son and his wife...i gave it to
Drew to take home last night when he brought Leah here from the airport. notice the bluejean rag quilt on floor at bottom of quilt? this is my quilt tester's bed. she was in the other room when i laid the quilt out for a pic...before i got my camera out Kayla had to try the new quilt,
not even glancing at her bed.
Sunday is a big day here!! Brandy is getting married under the abor in the back yard!!
she was planning an oct wedding, but larry has really gone down hill in the last couple of months.
she decided to move the wedding up to the fifth when she found out her sister would be here
from the first to the 6th of this month. 12 days to pull a wedding together!! i wish i could
help but larry is my priority, and i am proud of her, she is pulling it all together!

Yes! Finely

i finished something!!! granted it's small, but brad's bath mat is finely done! what next? i decided to do the tacking of the binding of drew and laura's sisters choice quilt by machine, i am using a decorative stitch on it. i was going to do the tacking by hand, but the quilt just sat here for 2 weeks and i did nothing. this morning i decided to take my own advice, "done is better than perfect" so its now on my machine.

larry is tired today, says he is planning to get lots of naps. he probably could if the phone wouldn't keep waking him up. speaking of larry he just said he is hungry...so i am going to get him something to eat

this week

has been very non productive. our home has been a constant flow of visitors for larry,
and constant phone calls checking up on him. he has had a very rough time the last 3
days. i have had so little time and am so behind keeping the home front caught up.
right now he is my priority...not house work or my quilting.

every day i have a list of a couple of quilty things i want to do...but for now they will
only get done during the good times.

a new friend for larry

my friend margaret brought a new friend for
larry...this is kayla. kayla is about 10 months old,
a lab and hound X. beautiful puppy.

acually, larry and i are in the picture too!! larry
is the grey legs in brown recliner and i am blue
legs directly behind kayla.

dd brandy took the picture with her cell. kayla
has stolen our hearts...and taken over about 1/2
of our living room. thankyou margaret!

larry has had lots of company since he has been
on hospice so very little sewing has been done.
and kayla ofcoarse, gets her share of my attention...she is big but still a puppy! lots of trips
outside. maybe tomarrow i will get bath mat #2 finished. i just started quilting it today and
it got so busy around here so it is still just barely started.

this is all i have accomplished this week

and i already had the center stars done!!!
these 5 blocks are for a swap i am in. the quilt pattern is "galexy of stars and scraps" these
friendship star blocks will alternate with an
eight pointed star block. now i have to do
5 eight pointed star blocks for the swap. i know this is just a start...the quilt takes 24 friendship star blocks and 25 of the 8 pointed star blocks.
they are not hard its just that time is a little
short right now.

larry has had all kinds of company plus getting
all the hospice stuff set up. it seems like so
many people here all the time. but, so much
better for him to know how loved he is.

margaret is coming today bringing a dog for larry. he has been lost since this winter we had
to put his last dog down. she had cancer and was in a lot of pain. i hope he and kayla truely
bond...oops time to start something for him to eat.

larry update

larry is now on Hospice...the dr's have decided that more treatment will do
more damage at this time to his general health than benifit. he agreed. his
metasisized tumors in the "good" lung are growing like gang busters. the goal now
is quality of life. he is relieved that he no longer has to go out for treatments.

good thoughts and prayers are apprieciated

a quick update

i have not posted in a timely manner...larry has had some scary changes and we spent over
8 hours in the local ER and have appointments today and monday to find what is going on.

they think it is cancer progressing, ther were X rays and CT scans...checking for blood clots
in his lungs, there were none. larry went from potsing around the house even doing a flight of steps several times a day to almost no activity. any activity definately affects his O2 level.

i am scared, there is nothing i ca do to make it all better. around him i keep my chin up
and try to keep normal activity up in fact to day i will be putting binding on my sisters choice
quilt if i change my activity it scares him which makes things worse for him. i am so
glad i brought a sewing machine up to the living room so i can keep him company
and let him see normal activity.

bath mat #1 done

well, here is the first bathmat finely done.
i echo quilted it with black. i think i like the silly thing. when i did mine i just free motioned it.
so far today i have done well, got the sisters choice quilt turned so now i can quilt the other half. i am waiting a day or 2 before i quilt the
other bath mat i do not do a lot of quilting on the
DM so when i do i am tense and my shoulders hurt. i'm gonna give my shoulders a break.
its been a quiet day here, larry had a bad night so we are both taking it easy. all i am going to do now is some mindless piecing...or maybe curl up with a good book. ann

man i'm slow this week

i should have both of these mats done by now and here i am just quilting the first one. accually i have been fighting a nasty migraine for the last 3 days and just done a little at a time. i don't get migraines very often anymore but every once in a while one rears its ugly head. i am better now, i sure hope i have seen the end of this one! hopefully, next week i will get more accomplished.

i guess first things first...since i have been down i have to unbury the house. its amaizing with only 2 of us here how much damage can be done to the order in the house in just three days!

quilt wise

i want to get the sisters choice quilt turned on the frame and finish quilting it

larry has no schedualed appointments this week. for that we are both grateful. he has had a bad few days so maybe being home and resting will help.

sometimes quilting is an act of faith...

this picture is one of the 2 bathmats that i have in progress.
it is ready to sew and birth (simple process, sew around
all four sides leaving a small area unsewn so i can turn it
rightside out). i saw a bath mat on line a year or so ago, and
i am sorry i have no idea where, my old puter ate the site.
anyway i made changes to suit myself but it would be nice
if i could give credit for the idea where it belongs.

the backing has been cut from an old bath towel, there is no batting.

hopefully in a couple of days i can show you the finished mats!

yesterday was a great day, Franny and Margaret came
to visit from columbus. we went out to lunch and went to
Mrs millers dry goods store.

i did well, i bought 2 quarter yard and 1 half yard cut of
fabric that i accually needed. i also bought a king batting, need that if i am ever going to get my trail mix quilt done.

we came back to the house and spent some time with larry all 3 of us working on projects
as we chattered. all and all it was a great day! thankyou franny and margaret for the fun day and thankyou brandy
for staying with your dad so i could have a day out.

well, its time to birth 2 bath mats

sunday ramblings and stash report

well, as usual i had bigger plans for yesterday than i had time and energy!! i do have
both bath mats pieced, today i hope to get the appliques fused and on the mats, i would
love to say that i will have the applque work done but, this is sunday and larry usually
has bunches of company. if he doesn't i should get some done. after all, i don't have
the templates finished yet, thought i would have that much done. at least i have the fabric
all pulled.

i will be sewing on other stuff up here til i get a chance to go downstairs and get all the prep
work done...still have half square triangles to sew for my scrappy X and O UFO, my NYE
mystery, DD etc etc etc.

i cannot believe how much stash the bulleye quilt busted! with 90 back ground squaresplus 9o 0f 8", 6", and 4" squares to cut circles just for the blocks alone by the time i added shashing backing and binding that baby took 21.75 yds!

UFO #2 for the year is DONE!!

golly,it feels good to acually get something done.

i have learned a lot doing this quilt...its my first QAYG (but not the last),

first folded triangle label and only the second time i have used erica wilsons completely machine applied binding.

hard to believe i have been playing with quilts since the 60's and just now tried some of these methods.

after i make a med run for larry, i hope to finish piecing a bathmat...its #2 of a set, then i will try to mach applique both of them at the same time. would like to be able to get them both done and in the mail by next week. then it will back to my ufo's for a bit.

well both of my testers told me to go ahead and trim the edges and bind the quilt!!
so i probably will on thursday...larry has tests tomarrow so we will be gone most of the day.
this quilt is sashed and will be bound with unbleached...larry's choice. at first i argued
with him but as i look at it now i think he is right. i learned a lot working on this quilt...
and will make more QAYG projects, what a great way to use up all those batting scraps!!
my big brother is finely back from the repair shop, i picked it up this afternoon so i will
hopefully get started on auntie grace in the morning!!! i have drew and laura's quilt all
ready to restart just have to wind some bobbins and i am about ready to quilt!!!
i finely have all i need to start my miranda bag, will be cutting it soon... once again i will
be doing something new golly, even we that are less young can learn!! i am so glad i have
this incredable stash i would hate to have to buy much material at todays prices!

plugging away on the bulls eye quilt

i am now adding the 1st step of the 4th row...its slow going for me but it's working!!! There area total of 10 rows so they probably won't get done for a couple of days. Larry usually gets company on the week ends and that puts a crimp in my sewing time...but i am glad he gets the company. once the quilt is together just binding and label so i should have this done by the middle of next week.

my stash report has not changed i have still finished nothing, added nothing....Yikes!!! i sure need my brother 1500 so i can use auntie grace, oh well, i am getting a slow gain...there should be a number change next week. i will probably try to get the bath mats i am working on done if my quilting system is still down and ofcoarse the bulls eye should be done too.

gratitude: we had good weather and roads for larry's dr appt's

no change on stash report

i have finished nothing and i have bought nothing.

BUT i have been busy...i got all 90 bulls eye blocks quilted...i have started putting rows together
with sharon pedersons qayg method, not hard to do just time consuming. since its my first
time with the tecnique i expected slow. so far i am pleased, but, sure i had my machine
back from the shop i sure miss working on auntie grace. i know ...whine whine whine.

no pictures yet, but will post one when i have the quilt together. i want to get more done today...
so its time to get busy. probably will do no sewing tomarrow, larry has a dr appt and i want this quilt set by the end of the week

weekly stash report-plus misc

i can't believe that jan is gone!

there were no changes in my totals this week
but since jan is gone i am listing the full report.
fabric added this week 0
fabric added in jan 8 yds
fabric added year to date 8 yds
fabric busted this week 0
fabric busted in jan 12.8
fabrick busted year to date 12.8
net busted this year 12.8 yds
estimated fabric on hand 3312.2 yds
acually thes totals are not quite as bad as they look... i do not count fabric as busted until
the project is totally done.
sure wish i would get a phone call from the repair shop telling me that my brother 1500's
part were in. i am lost without my auntie grace. but, i have been getting a lot of peicing done.
i have always wanted to try a QAYG quilt, so i dug thru my Ufo's and found some almost
done bullseye blocks...i finished the blocks, and now i am quilting them. i ended up with
92 blocks so will have a fairly large quilt blocks are unfinished at 8.25" so quilt should be
about 72+ X 84+...it would have been nice to find a smaller project to learn on. i guess i
never do things the easy way

the sisters choice quilt is ready to quilt, again

i finely got it completely unquilted this morning. now i wait for the factory part for the brother...then once again i can quilt!!!
until then i keep on cutting and piecing.
the picture is clue #5 of my NYE mystery...on to clue # 6 i accually got all the HST's all pieced so now to get them all on the ends of their 4.5
strips. i probably won't have much sewing time
today so it will be a while to get them all done.
i am doing step one on my DD ...but at this point
it is in rotation. once this one id done the DD will be the quilt that i focus on unless i happen
to get something else to borders or ready to set.

i am getting less young mighty fast!!!

today i hit the 68 year marker...i am still well, still quilting, and, still
able to take care of larry AND remembered to get my new license plates yep,
and the new drivers license!! i have many gratitudes today this was just the
start!

well, here is my step 4 of the NYE mystery...
am about half way thru step 5...slowly i am gaining.

this has been a strange week, a lot of much needed running. ah well, now its done for a while. sure didn't get a whole lot done around here,
the running takes a huge hunk out of the day. i am still picking out the quilting on my sisters choice quilt...sure wish i were done. i still have 3 thru 5 weeks or more with out a working auntie grace sure miss my big brother (1500 series) i don't know why i am in such a rush, i still have a lot of quilting to undo.

its quiet here now, finely, larry had company most of the day so i am going to try to get some sewing done... miss scrappy pants, ann

stah report and larry

i guess i had better get last weeks fabric report in...if i don't
keep after myself i will completely forget to keep track.

stash report thru 01/17/09

fabric added this month 8 yds
fabric added year to date 8 yds

fabric busted this week 0
fabric busted this month 12.8 yds
fabric busted year to date 12.8 yds

Net busted year to date 4.8 yds

until auntie grace is up and running my stash busting is going to be very, very
limited. at least this is a private challenge and i know that i am still sewing
most days.

today Larry had a Dr appt so we spent the day dealing with
medical stuff. he is still loosing weight he now ways only 100 lbs. it is so
scarey...he eats all the time. we found out today that the cancer in the "good"
lung is growing. larry opped to wait a month before starting another round
of chemo, he and the dr are concerned about is he strong enough to tolerate
the chemo. It has been a long hard year for him. at least we at this point
are keeping his pain under control.

it is late, i am going to try to get some sleep now.

I thought i was done with my swap blocks

just a simple jacob's ladder! then, as i was pressing the blocks, i found i get to spend some

time reverse sewing. my seam ripper is one of my most important tools! the first picture is

what i had put together.
...the other is what i should have done!
this wouldn't have been so bad except, i had resewn these 2 blocks earlier.
i know i am dislectic but this is getting fustrating. when i finely get these
done and in the mail it will be a relief.

i hope to post later today I have to figure my yardage for the week, i know i
didnt gain in usage this week because i have not finished anything, and thats when
i count yardage as busted. i also know i added 8 yards spent part of my Christmas
gifts at joanns.

gratitude for the day:

larry slept well last night
